Join us monthly as we help you find your inner artist!
Aspiring Artists, supported by ArtsWave, connects guests with the talents, creativity and artistic processes of some of the city’s best local artists. As artists guide aspiring prodigies through different styles and mediums, guests will have an opportunity to hone or uncover their own styles and abilities.

Shapes and Shades: Artistic Patterns with ROMAC
Saturday, January 18
"Shapes and Shades: Artistic Patterns with ROMAC," tailored for youths at all levels of creativity and directly inspired by the artwork of Robert O'Neal. Celebrated for his vibrant use of color and intricate patterns that resonate with the rich traditions of African fabrics, O'Neal's work provides a profound foundation for our hands-on activities. Participants will engage in a collage-making session using pre-cut shapes and oil pastels under the guidance of ROMAC artists and Artpreneur Apprentices. This workshop offers a fantastic opportunity to explore color blending, experiment with geometric compositions, and express individual creativity, all while learning about the cultural impacts embedded in O'Neal's art.
When: Saturday, January 18 from Noon to 5 p.m.

About the Artist
Robert O’Neal Multicultural Art Center (ROMAC) was established in 2019 to celebrate African and African American arts, history and culture. The purpose of the ROMAC shall be to serve as a hub/information center for the African and African American culture and arts within the City of Cincinnati by providing programs, information, and services connectivity of multicultural arts groups.
The ROMAC’s mission is to celebrate, advance and preserve African and African American culture and achievement through the arts, history, and education, while also uplifting the rich diversity of artists and cultures in the region.

An Afternoon of Abstraction with Cedric Michael Cox
Saturday, February 22
Join local and nationally respected artist, Cedric Michael Cox for a vivid art making experience for the entire family to enjoy. Cedric will lead guests in a painting activity that explores shape, line and color with a fun and unique hands-on approach.

About the Artist
For over 20 years, Cedric Michael Cox has been best known for his paintings that catapult color into rhythmic action with abstract and recognizable images that create compositions inspired by themes in music and the natural world. Working under several influences, including architecture and art history, Cox’s work ranges from geometric compositions to cityscapes, landscapes, and curvilinear floral-like forms, all dancing within surrealistic environments. In addition to his work being featured in museums and galleries around the country, his work can be found in the permanent collection of the Cincinnati City mayor's office, public and private schools, libraries, hospitals, law firms, and many private and corporate collections around the country.

Piñata Delights: Crafting Food Memories with Batres Gilvin
Saturday, March 15
Join Batres Gilvin at KidSPACE in the Cincinnati Museum Center for a piñata-making workshop celebrating food, fun, and memories inspired by Julia Child! In this playful session, each participant will create a piñata inspired by their favorite food, honoring a cherished recipe or food memory. Using small cardboard boxes, colorful tissue paper, cardstock, and decorative materials, you’ll learn crafting techniques to transform your piñata into a whimsical tribute to the foods that bring you joy.
At the end, our creations will come together in a festive display—a joyful tablescape celebrating the magic of shared meals and culinary creativity. Join us for this unique workshop and be part of a vibrant community artwork!

About the Artist
Batres Gilvin is an artist duo from Greater Cincinnati, made up of Karla Batres and Bradly Gilvin, who met while studying art in Cincinnati. Together, they create colorful and imaginative art that combines Karla’s Mexican American heritage with Bradly’s Southern American roots. Working from their studio on a family farm, they turn everyday life into art, using playful, bright colors and familiar shapes to share stories about family, community, and identity.
In their work, Batres Gilvin mixes fun, sparkly designs with big ideas about belonging and celebrating where we all come from. They love to use surprising materials and textures to help people see the world in new ways. Through their art, they invite viewers to explore different cultures, ask questions, and celebrate what makes each of us unique!

My World/Barbie’s World: A Place to Dream
Saturday, April 5
What does your dream world look like? Construct a vignette of your dream world inside a cardboard box, using Barbie as a symbol of identity, aspiration, and connection. Creators will build their world and style a Barbie doll using various items such as fabric, toothpicks, and Play-Doh. In this space, art becomes a means of connection as we share our stories and dreams.
When: Saturday, April 5 from Noon to 5 p.m.

About the Artist
Kandice Odister (she/her), is a mother and visual artist from Trotwood, Ohio now based in Cincinnati. Her work focuses on the exploration of identity and the human experiences that shape it. She embraces the concept of adult play as an artistic practice, merging creativity, storytelling, and self-discovery.

Printing with John Lanzador
Saturday, May 17
Join local artist and educator, John Lanzador and explore different ways forms of printmaking using everyday objects.

About the Artist
John is an artist/educator who is passionate about working for the greater good. He was the Artist in Residence for the Cincinnati Artist Museum, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company and V2 gallery. He's collaborated with ArtWorks, BLDG and Visionaries + Voices on community projects and trained youth apprentices to become part of the vibrant art culture of Cincinnati.

About the Artist
Rebecca Shakespeare Armstrong has always loved art and fashion and comes from a family of artists. Armstrong has her bachelors in Fashion Merchandising and Product Development as well as a minor in marketing from Bowling Green State University (BGSU). While in college, Armstrong created RJS Fashion which is an online shop where she offers unique headpieces, accessories, personal styling and blog. Her creativity stems from her faith as well as her love for film and television. Armstrong has a thing for depicting Black Women in elegant, dramatic attire and watercolor fashion illustrations. Her inspiration stems from not only her faith, but her Jamaican heritage as well as her love for the 80s and 90s bold use of color.
